SCCR Proud to Assist in Mission Trips Abroad

At Surgery Center Cedar Rapids, we have an incredible team of specialized doctors who work hard for the health and betterment of their patients. But their work doesn’t stop when they leave for the day – and neither does ours.

Our Dr. Edward H. Hu is also a member of the Christian Ophthalmic Surgical Expedition Network (ChOSEN) and has performed over 900 cataract surgeries through multiple trips to Montemorelos, Mexico. In August 2022 SCCR and Xygent partnered with ChOSEN to assist in Dr. Hu’s mission by providing surgery instruments, helping his team perform 146 complex cataract surgeries in just 5 days, adding to the trip’s total of 359 cataract surgeries and 95 retina surgeries.

In 2023, SCCR and Xygent once again aided Dr. Hu and the ChOSEN team by providing equipment to help perform 423 cataract and Retina surgeries in Chinendega, Nicaragua.

We are so proud of Dr. Hu for his incredible work and are honored to be able to help him in his mission, both here at Surgery Center Cedar Rapids and abroad.
